Michael Hedman To All Instructors

Mike & Tricia Hedman, owners and chief coaches at Excelsior Chess are married with two children and two grandsons.

Prior to launching Excelsior Chess, Mike served in the US Navy followed by service as a flight officer in the airline industry and later worked in finance and accounting in the business world. In the early 2000’s Mike began teaching at a school for gifted children with learning disabilities where he ran the school’s experiential education program, which included sail training, scuba diving, backpacking and chess. Discovering that he had a real love for teaching chess to young players, Mike launched Excelsior Chess 15 years ago. Tricia has had a successful career in literary publicity, and for the past 20 years has owned and operated her own literary publicity business, Ollie Media. While most of her time is now occupied with coaching and managing the family chess business, she still serves clients in her publicity business.
